Innovate or Die, advice from a fractional CMO

An open tin of skull candies for haloween or dia de les mortes
Candy skull fractional CMO advice

With Halloween upon us, I noticed this skull tin on my desk. It was a gift from the very inspirational Cynthia Montgomery. (Everyone in my AMP class at Harvard got one, so no favoritism!).

It was to remind us on the business truth that becomes more important every day. You need to innovate or die. As a fractional CMO, this is always on my mind.

Standing still, is no longer standing still, your competition are moving forward, so you are actually going backwards. There is no industry where people are not trying to disrupt. There is no business that is not threatened by a new start up. Your barriers to entry may be high, but they are not high enough.

So when you see all the skulls and paraphernalia of Halloween, ask yourself, what am I doing to innovate. I would love to hear in the comments below what you are doing.

And yes I know the tin is technically more Dia de los Muertos, but hey that’s only a couple of days away, so think of it then as well
